31 days left until the 5th Annual World Hypnotism Day.
(Sunday January 4, 2009)

Among my entrepreneur friends and colleagues there is a saying:

In business, ONE is the loneliest number

Now this has many meanings but the big one is this… as entrepreneurs we are often alone when making decisions, planning, and running our businesses.

And as I’m sure you know… starting and running your own business isn’t easy… not by a long shot.

And often as an entrepreneur you think you MUST do it on your own. I know I did.

Here’s the thing, that kind of thinking is a trap. The most successful business owners are those who constantly look outside their own mind, their own business, and event their own industry for ideas in solving problems.

The Mastermind Principle

And the really successful CEO’s are those who use what Napoleon Hill called in Think & Grow Rich… The Master Mind principle.

“Analyze the record of any person who has accumulated great fortune, and many of those who have accumulated modest fortunes, and you will find that they have either consciously, or unconsciously employed the Master Mind principle.”

– Napoleon Hill

What Is The MasterMind Principle?

So, what is this Master Mind thing? Glad you asked.

The Master Mind is the bringing together of minds with a focus and a purpose, in such a way that as a group you are more powerful than you as an individual could ever hope to be.

I highly recommend you buy a copy of Think & Grow Rich and STUDY it (not just read it) for as long as you remain in business. Especially as a Hypnotist you will recognize and appreciate the techniques of training your mind for success documented in the book.

You can get a copy on amazon.com for about $10, and it’ll be the best ten bucks you ever spend.

Here is the definition of the Master Mind Principle:

“Coordination of knowledge and effort in a spirit of harmony, between two or more people, for the attainment of a definite purpose.”

– Napoleon Hill in Think and Grow Rich

Benefits Of The MasterMind Principle

  •  A source of creative ideas
  •  Different perspectives on a problem you would never think of
  •  Access to the knowledge of many people you can tap instantly
  •  A way of reducing risk, others may have done it before you or at least will point out unseen pitfalls you might miss
  •  An extension of your own intelligence
  •  A reference point for expectations
  •  People who will remind you to celebrate your wins
  •  A means of gaining insight through clever questioning
  •  Support to tide you through the rough patches
  •  A sense of community with people who understand what it’s like to run a business

MasterMind Groups & World Hypnotism Day

Now, you might be wondering what this has to do with World Hypnotism Day.

Here’s the answer… By combining your ideas, skills, and business knowledge with other hypnotists in your area, all of you will have a more successful WHD 2009.

You might even discover you all want to work together and have one HUGE event rather than a bunch of small ones.

Obviously, these benefits extend beyond just World Hypnotism Day, so you might want to keep meeting with your MasterMind Group all year long.

“More gold has been mined from the thoughts of men than has been taken from the earth.”

– Napoleon Hill

Structure Of A MasterMind Meeting

I like to use this format.

If they are new, tell about yourself and your business. I also like to have new members create a one page info sheet about them and their business to hand out to all members of the group.

Each meeting

  1. Where you are now and what you have done since the last meeting. State both successes and challenges. (It’s important to celebrate WINS)

  2. What are your 3 biggest problems, challenges, concerns, or questions right now?
  3. What would you like the group to help with first?

How To Set Up A MasterMind Group

Finally, here an article on how to set up a MasterMind Group.

Your Next Step

So, here’s your next action step… contact other hypnotists in your area and set up a MasterMind meeting this week with the express purpose of having a hugely successful (and profitable) World Hypnotism Day event.

But, what if you don’t have other hypnotists in your area? You can do one of two things:

1. Use virtual meeting tools like teleconference or webinar for your mastermind.

http://dimdim.com (free video web meeting tool)

http://freeconference.com (free teleconference calls)

2. Invite other entrepreneurs in related fields of healthcare to be in your mastermind.

The secret to making this work is to ask “how can I use the MasterMind principle in my business”.

Take Away Points

- In business, one is the loneliest number

- Even 2 minds are better than one, and 2 minds actually have a synergy that equals more than 2.

- Economic advantages arise from sharing and cooperation with others.

- You can use the mastermind to pool resources for a HUGE WHD event.

- You can have a virtual mastermind if you can’t meet in person.

Now, go make it happen!

Cheers,

Craig

At the time this was posted, there are 32 days left until the Fifth Annual World Hypnotism Day. (Sunday January 4, 2009)

This is the one day of the year devoted to bringing as much attention to the benefits of hypnosis as possible.

And this is a GOLDEN opportunity for you to jump start your business in 2009.

World Hypnotism Day events have been very successful for hypnotists in past years

  • Debbie Lane (Palm Harbor FL) booked 7 appointments on the spot the day of her event, and received over 100 calls in the following 6 months from people who had attended her WHD event.  90 of those became clients!

  • Scott Cooper (Detroit MI) had over 65 people at his event in 2008, got exposure in four local papers and a plug on Detroit radio station WRIF.
  • Seth-Deborah Roth (Castro Valley CA) booked over $10,000 in business from her event in 2007.

You too can have this kind of success, but to make it happen you have to participate and have an event of some kind.

In other words… take action!

Now, before you begin to worry because this all seems overwhelming, I’ve got some good news for you…

I’ve been asked by Tom Nicoli the founder of World Hypnotism Day to lead the Marketing Committee.  This means I’ll be providing resources, guidance, and answering questions to help hypnotists (like you) put and have an awesome event.

Sign Up For World Hypnotism Day FREE Resources

First thing… sign up at the World Hypnotism Day site to get access to the WHD resources already available.

Go to the WHD members area and enter your name and email address. Then a username and password will be sent to you. Use this link to get there:

32 Days Till World Hypnotism Day!

So, what should you do next? Good question. But before we address it, you need to do something much more important first… you need to know your PURPOSE for having an event on WHD!

The purpose will give you focus, motivation, and keep you from getting sidetracked. Too many times, action is taken without a purpose. Or worse, no action is taken because without a clear focus from knowing your purpose, you don’t know what to do next.

Suggested Outcomes For Your WHD Event

Here are some I suggest would be useful to you:

LEAD GENERATION – use your WHD event, and all the related promotions to BUILD A LIST of interested prospects.  This way, even if you don’t make any sales that day… you’ll have a hot list to follow up with.

GET FREE PUBLICITY – WHD is a very news worthy event. Hypnosis ALWAYS makes for a great human interest story because people are fascinated with it, and the New Year is a great time for change-your-life stories.

My point: if you can’t get a story for WHD you are doing something wrong.  It’s like getting cats to eat tuna fish… all you need to do is open the can.

People who have followed the publicity methods I’ve taught in the past have had full front page articles, radio interviews, and even feature stories on the nightly news done about them and their events.

POSITION YOURSELF AS AN EXPERT
– At the very least, you should come away with your community recognizing you as an expert in hypnosis.  With a little thought and planning, you can become recognized as…

  • pain management expert
  • stress relief expert
  • stop smoking specialist
  • weight loss specialist
  • motivational guru
  • golf game improvement genius

The idea here is to FIRMLY establish in the minds of others that when you need help with ____________________ YOU are the ‘go-to’ person.

This requires you be clear on what Niche you want to dominate in your area.

You can also position yourself as the local hotshot in your niche

“San Francisco’s Stop Smoking King”

Note: for more on positioning watch this video:

Now, the purpose you choose for your WHD event should be one that is right for you.  I’m just trying to prime your pump a little with ideas.

Getting Underway – 5 Phases of Planning

With only 32 days left, you need to get moving. And we all now the upcoming holiday season can be disruptive, so you need to have a plan in place… NOW!

Here are the 5 Phases of Planning to get you in action:

  1. Define your purpose & principles
  2. Outcome visioning
  3. Brainstorming
  4. Organizing
  5. Identify NEXT ACTION(S)!

Note: These are from the book Getting Things Done by Robert Allen. I highly recommend this book. As a hypnotist you’ll enjoy his discussions of freeing up the subconscious mind from open loops.

Except for my pep-talk on Purpose, I’m not going into depth on these phases. They should be fairly obvious, and as a hypnotist you already are an expert at visioning a successful outcome. You have your clients do it all the time.

Probably the hardest part is the organizing and identifying the next action, but it doesn’t need to be that way.

By referring back to your Purpose, it will keep you on track with organizing and the next step for each piece. Also think of priority and sequence when organizing.

Right now your next step is to sit down today and PLAN, and come up with a set of NEXT actions… then do at least one, and have some ready for tomorrow.

Mind Mapping

One more thing, a tool I find to be essential to BRAINSTORMING and ORGANIZING is using a mind map.

Mind maps are a form of visual thinking. There is software to do it, but a pencil and piece of paper work just fine. Also a white board is an awesome tool.

You can learn more about mind maps here:

TAKE AWAY POINTS

- WHD is world wide event designed to promote the profession of hypnosis and all it’s benefits

- An event is the best way to take advantage of WHD

- You need to start NOW to maximize the success of your event

- Before you take action, know what your desired outcome (purpose) for your event is

- Plan now so you know what your next ACTION STEPS are.

- You have 32 days left, do at least one thing TODAY!

That should get your wheels turning!

Cheers,

Craig

P.S. Be sure you sign up at the World Hypnotism Day website and take a look at the materials there for ideas.

A recent research study from Rubicon Consulting found some very interesting facts and trends about how people use the Internet and online communities.  Especially important to note for a Hypnosis business is the first bullet point about the influence of online reviews and comments.

  • Online reviews and comments are second only to word-of-mouth when it comes to consumer buying decisions
  • The Web is the #2 resource for customer support information, after user
manuals.  It ranks ahead of calling the manufacturer or asking a dealer.
  • Website categories that get the most daily usage are search, social
communities such as MySpace and Facebook, general news websites like
CNN.com and NYTimes.com, and online banking.
  • The websites that Americans value most are (in order), Google, Yahoo, YouTube, Wikipedia, and Facebook.
  • Although Yahoo’s financial challenges have generated a lot of press
attention, it continues to have a very large and loyal following.
  • Young people (age 22 and under) account for about half of all the content and comments
    posted online.
  • Facebook appears to be ahead of MySpace in terms of number of users in the US, and perceived value of the site.
  • A person’s age makes a difference in the types of online
information they are influenced by. However, across all age groups, the
web has a significant influence on the purchase of consumer electronics.
  • About a quarter of web users say they have dated someone they first met online.

Key Point: Online information is important in the purchase-decision process, but the most influential information is user-generated.

This is just one of many studies showing the growing usage of the Internet.  You can no longer ignore marketing on the Internet or your business will suffer.

About the survey: In September of 2008, Rubicon Consulting’s
web strategy practice surveyed 3,036 web users age 13+ in the United
States. The survey was conducted online, using respondents sourced from
a national sampling company, and should be projectable to the US
web-using population, or about 75% of US residents.  The white paper, “Online Communities and Their Impact on Business: Ignore at Your
Peril,”
is free and available for download.
