One Word Makes A Big Difference In Sales
I was just reading an article about testing the different elements of a ordering system for a site that sells office supplies such as printer inks etc. If you’ve been reading this site for awhile, you know I’m very big on testing. Always test! You’ll be amazed what you find, and how much more money it will make you.
The thing that stood out for me in this article was the HUGE difference in conversion to sales one little word made.
If you’ve ever ordered an item online you know there is either a link or a button beside the item that says "ADD TO CART". I have to admit here, that it has never occurred to me to test those words, so this was a valuable lesson for me, as I hope it is for you.
This company decided to test "Proceed to Cart" instead of "Add to Cart" on their product pages. The result was a whopping 21.8% increase in sales! This was a ONE WORD change, and will make them tens of thousands of dollars more in sales from now on.
You can bet that I’m going to be testing this for my clients in the future.
There are two big lessons here:
1. Always test and always try to improve your marketing system. This is what separates a highly successful business from an average one.
2. The words you use can make a huge difference in your sales, and this is true at every step in your marketing funnel.
