Today is the first day of the 30 Day Marketing Challenge. If you spend any time online, you most likely have heard of this event. If not, see my early post on this topic A Crash Course In Internet Marketing.
After a week of studying videos and podcasts on how to set up and use the tools for the challenge, setting up teams, and playing with all the new Web 2.0 apps, today mostly relaxed.
It turns out that they had more people sign up in the 24 hours leading up the the challenge, than they had take the challenge the last two years! As Ed remarked "Guess it’s proof the Web 2.0 stuff works".

And there was a lesson in Direct Marketing as it applies to the Internet. In fact, I’m really excited about what Ed said in today’s podcast, because the emphasis was on the fundamentals… and especially on MARKET RESEARCH!
It’s amazing how few businesses do their homework before releasing a product or new service. This is universal in all parts of the business world, from Hypnotherapists to Fortune 500 companies. A classic example is the collosal Pets.com flop in the Dot Com Days. You can see evidence of their blunder in my post The Only Purpose Of Advertising Is To Make Sales.
Before I sign off today, I’ll leave you with the Four Fundamentals of the 30 Day Challenge:

The Thirty Day Challenge (Internet marketing) is due to start literally in minutes. At least in my time zone. Some people are technically already started.
One of the web 2.0 applications we have been learning is called Twitter. It seems kind of baffling at first, then more like a toy until I played with it a bit. You can tell people what you are looking at on the Internet without leaving the site. And you can give it a short comment.
When combined with RSS feeds, this can be broadcast out to a large number of people in real time. I’m just beginning to see the power of web 2.0 for driving traffic to website, blogs, etc.
Here’s a screen shot of my Twitter page, just before I typed this post (while still on the Twitter page, thanks to Scribefire).
If you’ve ever wished someone would take the time to show you what leading edge Internet Marketing is all about, then you’ll want to check out the Thirty Day Challenge put on by Ed Dale.
If terms like Web 2.0, Blog, Del.ic.ious, Technorati, RSS, Flickr, Facebook, and Squidoo make no sense to you what-so-ever, then you’ll love the videos Ed has created that walk you through what these are and how you can use them.
What is the Challenge? It’s an annual Internet Marketing competition. This year the goal is to make $10 online in 30 days. If you want to know "Why $10 Dollars?", because it’s an amount that anyone can believe is possible.
Also, the challenge is to make $10 without spending ANY money. None. Zip. Nada.
Ed and his partner are going to show you how to generate traffic using Social Bookmarking, Blogging, and other leading edge Web 2.0 applications.
I have already learned a lot about some of the new web 2.0 tools, including a Firefox plugin called Scribefire that I’m using to write this post.
The Challenge starts tomorrow August 1st, but you can join even after it’s started. Whether you decide to compete or not , is up to you, but if you want to learn how to use the web as a constant source of traffic for your site, then you won’t find this much detailed information for FREE anywhere else.
I’m going to participate, so I’ll have some updates about what I learn along the way.
